'Aliens in Alaska,' and clocking into the 'Love Island' factory
Before we get into it, yes, I want to believe in aliens-slash-life outside of Earth.
Aliens in Alaska only got one season (and it's labeled as a documentary which made me LOL), but had some pretty familiar faces from local politicians, including Bob Bird and Dustin Darden. Yeah.
This isn’t the only Alaska-alien reality TV special. We've got Aliens in Alaska, Missing in Alaska, The Alaska Triangle, the list goes on. Can you tell I've been on a paranormal/alien kick lately?
Renee Bullock of North Pole shared her experience seeing a spaceship on Aliens in Alaska. Within a week, she says a massive communication tower was constructed near her home in the dead of winter. While having a drink at her local bar, two men in black suits walk in and interrogate her about what she saw that night.
It made me feel like, really, really small. Like, we are very small. And that there's other things out there that we just, you know, don't really even know about. And I'm 100% American but I'll tell you what – I wouldn't mess with something like that, she said.
A common thread between sightings, people say spaceships/UFOs make no sound. In Anchorage, Shel Marie says she saw a UFO when she attended Alaska Pacific University.
Shel doesn't remember what happened after that, and has questioned if she was abducted. She sees a hypnotherapist in Anchorage named Deborah Faithrose, who uses an audiovisual synthesizer to dig deeper into Shel's subconscious. She cries in her session and says she remembers seeing language on the bottom of the spaceship that "wasn't human."
Lisa Merrell lived in Homer with her boyfriend until they both saw the little men in the trees. Now, they live in Kodiak.
I'd picked up my boyfriend's binoculars, and I was looking out towards the trees. I just happened to catch something, she said. There was this little bitty thing, Lisa said. It's like a little man, hopping from tree to tree. He wasn't worried about gravity, he wasn't worried about falling. It was just like, dancing in the trees.
About a month after that, Lisa says she began seeing "hundreds" of the little men in trees around her Homer home. As an artist, she began drawing what she saw floating through the trees.
I'm no expert, but her illustration isn't giving alien to me. It reminded me of Iñukuns — sinister beings from Iñupiaq folklore. James Dommek Jr. executive produced Blood & Myth, which is so worth the watch on Hulu. He looks into the case of Teddy Kyle Smith, who was convicted of attempted murder and said in court that his actions were guided by Iñukuns.
Theo Chesley is the owner of Precision Air Inc. in Sand Point. In addition to his Aliens in Alaska cameo, he was also on Ancient Aliens (season 19, episode 8) sharing the same experience. So now I have to add that to my ever-growing list.
Between 2019 and 2020, he had several sightings at the peak of Mount Shishaldin on Unimak Island. First, he saw a weird looking cloud above the mountain, then a green sphere appeared to its side. Six months later, he was on the same flight path, and saw another weird cloud in the same exact spot as a sphere Theo had seen.
After taking a photo, Theo said there was some unexplainable force that began overriding his plane. He thinks there is some kind of magnetic pull at the mountain.
My aircraft was on autopilot. My autopilot and my heading basically were on a straight course, but I kept noticing I was 30 degrees off course, heading for the mountain. It got me a little scared, so I changed my heading bug, which steers the aircraft back on course, and then it did it again. Normally, when you're on autopilot, it holds your heading and it's all as-advertised. Not this time.

To celebrate landing a writing gig, I bought myself a fancy new Lululemon yoga mat. I rolled it out and went to grab my water bottle, and Etta promptly crawled over and threw up on it. Thanks, baby!
Love Island has been the large majority of what's been playing in our house lately. I've been having a great time on Discord watching with friends. Dedicating six days a week to a show is no joke.
