The Sarah Palin x Kate Gosselin collab, and a new name has struck the r/tragedeigh sub
This is by far the latest newsletter I've sent out... sorry guys. Let's just say it's been a week. This morning, Ari and I recorded the first episode of our podcast, Too Long, Didn't Watch (TLDW). We still need to edit it, but I'm happy that the first recording is officially under our belts.
Then, this afternoon we had our first in-person watch party at The Coven. It was a lot of fun! We had pizza and snacks, and I made some new friends. There were two folks who were not newsletter subscribers that showed up, which was super cool. I asked how they heard about it and they said the zine, Twine – which we got a shoutout in!

There's an entire season of Sarah Palin's Alaska we're going to chat about in the future, but this newsletter is dedicated to episode five of the series, Alaskan Hospitality. The episode aired in late 2010 and is the ultimate TLC crossover, featuring Alaska's former governor and Kate Gosselin of Jon & Kate Plus 8, the pinnacle of reality tv royalty in the later 2000s.

The episode begins at Chimo Guns in Wasilla, where Sarah tells the guys behind the counter that Kate is going to rely on her for this camping trip, so she needs something to protect them. They send her home with a shotgun.
Sarah says Kate and her eight were in Alaska filming their show, so they decided to meet up and go camping. How convenient!

Kate and the kids meet Sarah at her house, where she gives them a tour. Before they explore the great outdoors, our former govna tells the Gosselins that they will all be taking a survival course called Learn to Return. It looks like they have a ton of different course offerings, but ultimately, only Sarah and Kate take the course, called "Wilderness Safety Leader: Bear Guard."
Even for those who may think, maybe on a political level that they are anti-gun, they need to realize if you are unarmed and you're out in the wilderness and perhaps, you're with children, camping – well, you're putting yourself and your family in danger if you are not armed, if you are not prepared for a predator, Sarah said.

I can't say I'm a gun advocate, necessarily, Kate said in a confessional. But there's nothing that I wouldn't do to protect my kids, so, yeah – if I had to use a gun to save my kids, absolutely. (I would love to know what kind of question prompted this response!)
The group goes camping at Chelatna Lake, which is only accessible by float plane. It's a family affair, Sarah's parents come along, plus all the Palin kids under 18 at the time. Kate has "19 layers on" but cannot manage to stay warm. She stands under a canopy while it rains, and Sarah's parents take the kiddos to a river to explore. She continues to stand under the canopy while dinner is made.

Kate has a temper tantrum and in a matter of hours, decides that she "held it together as long as [she could]" before going up to Sarah and telling her she's done. Mind you, the kids are having the time of their best lives, eating s'mores, learning about the life cycle of salmon, collecting sticks for the campfire, making the state of Alaska out of river rocks.
She bitched every – from the minute she got off the plane, Sarah's dad said after Kate left.

I suppose if she took me to like, New York City on some red carpet event, I'd be the same way, Sarah quipped back.
Tragedeigh: a given name that has been deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is

One of Love is Blind's quirkiest couples recently announced the name of their second baby. They already have a daughter named Galileo. Their son's name is Polaris J ³ ohn Pax Goytowski – according to this People Magazine Exclusive: His middle name is a three-dimensional name represented in two-dimensional space in honor of Zack’s Grandpa, John Bliss’s twin brother and Zack’s Grandma Jean.
Bitch, what the fuck? You can just name your child John and he will turn out just fine. When I broke my leg, a nurse was prepping me for surgery and we started chatting about kids. She asked my daughter's name. "Thank God you chose something normal." She shook her head. "You wouldn't believe the names I hear." I asked her if she had heard of the r/tragedeigh subreddit. She said she hadn't. I told her she would not regret checking it out on her next break, and she wrote it down on a sticky note.

It reminds me when Grimes named her baby X Æ A-12. To be fair, I like that the professional photos chosen for publishing aren't focused on their children's faces. I don't really care if you share your child's face online, but when you're a public figure I do think it's a bit different. Why do I know this child's whole government name and birthdate?
