TLDW: 'Joe Pera Talks with You' and season 20 of 'Married at First Sight'
Joe Pera Talks with You was the first tv show that Dunk and I watched together. It was one of his favorite shows that was constantly quoted. When we got together, it had literally just been canceled (🍅🍅). Perfect egg bite and the violence is engrained in us became common quips in our household. It felt fitting that when a year together rolled around, I bought us tickets to see Joe live that summer in Portland.
It was a great show, Carmen Christopher opened and came on stage again later during the set. Joe told everybody he had a few scenes he wanted to act through, and asked if any audience members would volunteer. He specifically asked for a man who could do accents. I immediately grabbed Dunk’s arm, put it up, and said, you have to do it.

People sitting around us began to get excited, and before we knew it a spotlight was shining on Dunk (I have videos but refuse to share them because my laugh is so evil and maniacal in them). Dunk walked down the aisle and onto the stage, and before he knew it he was up there with Joe and Carmen, wearing his Joe Pera tomato t-shirt. The script was a few pages long, and Dunk said it wasn’t until the third page that he read that his character is supposed to have a Welsh accent.
Joe said to Dunk onstage, It's okay if you can't do it.
Dunk started doing his Welsh accent, and Joe's jaw dropped. Dunk reads his Welsh line, and Joe and Carmen look at each other like that Nick Young GIF. The crowd lost it.

I'm feeling like a real asshole, Joe said. Are you from there? Do you have any friends from there?
I don't know what a Welsh accent sounds like, Dunk said.
Joe giggled into the mic. You faked us all out, he replied.
After the show, literally dozens of people came up to Dunk: YOU WERE AWESOME. WAS THAT YOU?? THAT WAS MY FAVORITE PART OF THE SHOW! YOU ROCK DUDE!

(total watch time: 5 hours, 41 minutes)
Ninja Creami Deluxe: $229. Choosing to leave your self-absorbed pickleball-playing husband: priceless.
The last two episodes of season 20 of Married at First Sight came out today. I wrote about the show in last month's TLDW, but more generally about the format and how it compares to other reality dating shows like Love Island and The Bachelor/Bachelorette.

Imagine going on a show to find love and feeling like you've met your match, only to realize the man you were paired with has a raging ego that can only be fueled by... pickleball? What do you mean you don't play three hours of knock-off tennis every day? At least out of this season, there was one genuine couple that seems to be super compatible.
I'm gifting you this ice cream maker, Adam said, after the couple broke up.
You're so sweet, Marissa said.
I mean, I know you wanted one, Adam responds tearfully. You could make, like, healthy protein ice cream. Which is like, at least a game changer for me.
