Meet the cast of 'Surviving Alaska: Women of the Wild' — an exclusive interview with Jody Potts-Joseph

Surviving Alaska: Women of the Wild is a new reality docu-series highlighting four women in the Alaskan winterscape, which premiered the first week of October on National Geographic. Enter Jody Potts-Joseph, Ryne Olson, Kaycee Powell and Sarah Poynter. Jody was kind enough to talk to me about Surviving

A Chickaloonian wins 'Jeopardy,' and a playlist for you 💌

After last week‘s letter about ditching Instagram, Allie asked how no IG has been going for me. Allie has been off apps since January of 2025, which I have so much respect for. I constantly question what is the right choice given that social media is a big way

GUEST COLUMNIST: Delete. The. App.

Today, we're hearing from Elizabeth, the love of my life and walking embodiment of an angel on earth. Her letter this week has me thinking about all of the different apps and pathways that have connected us. So many friends that are in my close circle were once

Who is hanging in my house via the third realm?

Can I be honest? I did not watch any Alaska reality TV this week. I don't have anything reality-related for this newsletter. What I do have is 750 words about how I've never felt by myself in my home, even when I have been. You

'Survivor 51' has got me in a mood, so we're watching 'Survivor Philippines: Palau'

Season 51 of Survivor premiered this week, which sent me down a rabbit hole. (I’ve written about my love of Survivor previously in the newsletter) There are a few states that haven’t been represented on the US platform, Alaska included. But on Survivor Philippines: Palau, season 2'

TLDW: I watched RFK Jr.'s cooking show, and used 'Ladies of London' and 'Monsters of God' as a palate cleanser

I find it funny when people call a YouTube channel a show. The Real Food Show's name in itself makes me chuckle. A little hee-hee, ha-ha. Hosted by HHS Secretary RFK Jr. that makes healthy, affordable cooking simple and accessible for every American. (This is on

Why hit 'schedule' when you can hit 'send?' Just give me a gun!

Making friends with the neighborhood magpie, plus a new ep of 'Cast Iron Cowboy' in Delta Junction

Sometimes I write newsletters Carrie Bradshaw style, where I sit at a desk by a big window and type on a keyboard for hours. Sometimes. This letter is coming to you live! from the left side of the bed! while Etta’s toes dig into my back. I can feel

GUEST COLUMNIST: What the hell is a Real Writer and how do I become one?

This week, we're hearing from BFFL Ari, who published their first Substack newsletter this week, Hyperfixated. You can subscribe here to stay in the loop on when they publish next! I Write Thousands of Words Every Day and Have Nothing To Show for It! I have a funny

Twitch streamers raise $45K for Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, plus the sacrificial lamb to a Druski bit

I asked what I should write about in the newsletter this week on Instagram. I got a response (shoutout Brook!) that said, not a show but Maya and Adapt did their Not Geo here recently. The same day, Druski released a YouTube video that was filmed earlier this summer. No,

Diving deep into 'Hell's Kitchen,' and making moves in silence

Remember when I was on top of my grind and sending newsletters out every Sunday at 12 p.m. on the dot? I will get back to where I once was! This weekend, my parents took Etta for some Nana and Papa time, which freed up my Saturday for whatever

TLDW: 'Joe Pera Talks with You' and season 20 of 'Married at First Sight'

Joe Pera Talks with You was the first tv show that Dunk and I watched together. It was one of his favorite shows that was constantly quoted. When we got together, it had literally just been canceled (🍅🍅). Perfect egg bite and the violence is engrained in us became common quips

That time my friends were in a French-Canadian Burning Man documentary

There are times in life where you meet someone and you just click, like you've known one other for years. That's Amanda. We met through a mutual friend who set us up for a trade (shoutout Sophie!), where I bathe and groom her three hairless cats

I watched every season of when 'The Amazing Race' visited Alaska

The Amazing Race has been on since 2001, and five of the 38 seasons have had pitstops in Alaska: 1, 2, 9, 12 and 23. Just like Survivor, the cash prize for Amazing Race has always been $1 million, which is kind of a trip to me, cause a milly

The Sarah Palin x Kate Gosselin collab, and a new name has struck the r/tragedeigh sub

This is by far the latest newsletter I've sent out... sorry guys. Let's just say it's been a week. This morning, Ari and I recorded the first episode of our podcast, Too Long, Didn't Watch (TLDW). We still need to edit it,

Reminiscing on my former teacher in 'Double Rifle Adventures'

I received a letter in February that I had been named as a beneficiary in a former educator of mine’s will. He was a substitute teacher who began filling in for classes at the tail-end of elementary school. When I moved into middle/high school, he did too.

TLDW: 'Below Deck Mediterranean' and 'Married at First Sight'

I didn't realize until I began writing this month's TLDR that I completely spaced writing last month's! Sorry y'all. Season 11 of Below Deck Mediterranean has been one of my fave seasons yet. Aesha Scott (self-explanatory). A Below Deck baby. The

Plowing through 'Ice Road Truckers,' and The Coven watch party deets

We have a movie picked out for our watch party, folks. I watched The Odyssey this weekend, stumbled down a Christopher Nolan rabbit hole and discovered his third movie is set in Alaska. It's called Insomnia, and stars Robin Williams and Al Pacino. We'll be doing

'Alaska’s Wild Gourmet' makes me want to go foraging

I haven’t had the chance to do much foraging this year. I missed the window for fiddlehead ferns, but I have big dreams of turning my backyard into a forager’s paradise for EJ. I want to put rhubarb and raspberry bushes up along the fence, plant wildflowers in

Watching HGTV’s new show, ‘House Hunters: Grand Alaska’

I’m writing this week’s newsletter from Kasilof Beach, while watching my family dipnet. Since I was pregnant last year and probably would have floated out to sea, I didn't go. This year, it's because of my leg. It felt like an accident waiting to
